Inspired by the poetic work of Mark Strand, Keeping Things Whole is a digitally embroidered fabric installation. It aims to capture the essence of Strand’s proposal; to emphasize the impermanence of life, and the ongoing movement of the world around us. Two sheets of gauze fabric are sewn together at the top, creating space for air to pass through both layers. When installed, the piece becomes activated in the wind, moving through the air, a stand-in for the body Strand describes.
